And realised a headache of the devil’s own creation
In a filthy room in, truth be told, much worse accommodation
Than ever before had she known

And after some effective if quite brief deliberation
She reckoned alcohol and loneliness a sorry combination
Making love without love just elaborate masturbation
But better than doing it alone

It seems it’s been this way right from the beginning
Life is just so different for men and for women
Don’t ask why

And never one to dwell on any sense of an occasion
And keen to make the most of this spontaneous liaison
She suggested they engage in one more quick collaboration
Before she had to say her goodbyes

She told him he could call her if he had the inclination
Perhaps meet up again without such strong intoxication
But he really should take nothing from this little indication
Only that she’d give him a try

And still she felt this nagging sense of guilt at her behaviour
She wasn’t looking for a hero, wasn’t looking for a saviour
And somewhere close approaching satisfaction’s what it gave her
So she couldn’t quite understand why

She hadn’t put herself in trouble, hadn’t put herself in danger
Almost everything’s uncertain, almost everyone’s a stranger
Thinking on society’s inequities enraged her
She decided not to bother to try
